GENESIS provides the most comprehensive technical education in the industry by focusing on best practices and code compliance, and offering courses taught by the industry’s leading instructors. GENESIS training establishes the highest standards for the industry and is accredited in compliance with the ANSI/IACET Standard, which is recognized internationally as a pinnacle of excellence in instructional practices.
The educational structure supports certification in the form of membership in the Society of Watershape Designers as an SWD Master or an SWD Registered member. The Society of Watershape Designers is the most prestigious and accomplished group of watershape builders and designers anywhere in the world. The path to SWD certification and membership includes instruction in all disciplines pertinent to our profession: construction, hydraulics, soils analysis, structural design, materials science, concrete applications, color theory, architectural design, and much more.

Texas Residential Appliance Installer License
Statutory clarifications for holders of RAIL license include:
- Installing, uninstalling, or replacing pool-related electrical devices including underwater lights, ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), pumps, motors, heaters, automation systems, and related equipment on the “load-side” of the control-center while maintaining National Electrical Code compliance. However, if the system requires a new or upgraded “line-circuit,” only a licensed electrical contractor with a designated master electrician may offer to perform that work.
- Installing or adding pool-related electrical devices to an existing pool that do not require an increase in amperage or access to a main breaker panel. For example, a RAIL holder may install salt systems, a time clock or similar automation equipment, a variable speed motor, or ultraviolet or ozone equipment.
- Installing, uninstalling, or replace pool-related electrical devices that use direct or alternating current.
IN OTHER WORDS, THE COMPANY THAT REPAIRS OR REPLACES ANY PUMP, HEATER, BLOWER, LIGHTS, OR ANYTHING ELECTRICAL WITH YOUR SWIMMING POOL MUST BE LICENSED BY THE STATE.

A Certified Pool & Spa Maintenance Specialist (CMS) has a strong understanding of safety, pool circulation and filtration, pool maintenance, water quality, electrical systems, pool structures/finishes, heaters/controls, and customer service.

Certified Pool & Spa Inspector (CPI)
The Certified Pool & Spa Inspector (CPI) will assure a sanitary, healthy, and safe environment for the public when using swimming pools and spas. Understanding the basis for code requirements and why a violation is a public health hazard.

Certified Pool & Spa Service Technician (CST)
A Certified Pool & Spa Service Technician (CST) has the skills to explain common problems with pool finishes and how to repair them, keep pools running more efficiently, extensive troubleshooting skills, and is distinguish as an experienced and knowledgeable service technician.
Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO)
CPO® Certification provides individuals with the knowledge, techniques, and skills of pool and spa operations. This training has helped protect millions of swimmers by reducing hazards at aquatic facilities. CPO® Certification, the world’s leading verifiable pool and spa training credential.
The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) was formed in 2019 to bring together the two largest organizations in the pool industry, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) and the National Swimming Foundation (NSPF). With the mission to “Celebrate the Water,” through education, research, responsible legislation and outreach, PHTA works to keep pools safer, keep pools open and bring more people to water for happier and healthier lives.
Verified Watershape Company (VWC)
Companies pursuing continuing education and training may promote themselves using the Verified Watershape Company (VWC) digital badge. This is available only to companies that maintain a Verified Watershape Foreman (VWF) or higher level of credential in a leadership position within the company. Leadership positions include owners, directors, and managers. It isn’t enough to simply send a ditch-digger to the CON 2111: Essential Pool Construction program to obtain the VWC credential as the credential represents the whole company and their leadership in embracing education. We expect that leadership requires a top-down approach to management within a company.
